The Samyang 300mm F6.3 UMC CS Lens is a mirror lens designed specifically for use on mirrorless cameras. The lens' Cassegrainian design enables it to achieve a 450mm 35mm-equivalent focal length perspective within a compact and lightweight lens design that is significantly smaller than a traditional 300mm lens. It features a fixed f/6.3 aperture and utilizes manual focus operation for focusing as closely as 2.95'.

One extra-low dispersion element and the inherent mirror construction of the lens work to eliminate chromatic aberrations while providing notable image sharpness and clarity. Furthermore, the UMC (Ultra Multi Coated) coating has been applied to reduce surface reflections, lens flare, and ghosting while also contributing to improved overall contrast.

  • Mirror lens designed specifically for mirrorless cameras.
  • Catadioptric system with Cassegrainian design helps to reduce the overall size of the lens while still providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 450mm.
  • One extra-low dispersion element and a UMC coating are integrated into the lens construction to improve sharpness and clarity as well as enhance the overall image contrast.

    fun lightweight telephoto alternative

This is a nice lightweight compact and perhaps more importantly budget alternative to a telephoto option. 70mm length in front of body. 95mm when focused barrel extended (for closer objects, reverse of a "normal" lens, and 140mm with lens shroud + extended focus barrel (shroud adds about 45mm in length). Not this is focus barrel as opposed to a focus ring. It does not extend focal length.I have this packed mostly for casual hiking and it would probably serve bird watchers who don't want to pack a ginormous lens simply for some quick shots and identification. The bokeh can really get weird a lot of times, but this tends to be a lot more noticeable on dimly lit or poorer lighting conditions. That said, on a full sunny day, this is one of the most fun lenses I pack. The donut rings you can kind of play around, as its usually a much bigger issue when the distance of objects in the background/foreground are substantially different from the subject of interest. If you're looking at a mostly flat subject or a landscape off in the distance it's hardly noticeable.

Surprisingly sharp once you get the hang of focusing it

I've tried mirror lenses before and found them to deliver too poor an image quality to be useful. This one is different. For a super small (stealthy) and light lens, you can actually get nice shots pretty reliably. Sharpness is comparable to some of my Canon lenses, although contrast is a tad weak. That, of course, can be fixed in post processing. But this lens is challenging to use. Focus peaking is very helpful; go back and forth until you have where it's at max and you'll get a good shot. Don't try to hand hold this unless it's very bright out. I'd suggest 1/600th shutter unless you're real steady. For the size nothing else comes close.

    Interesting lens

Interesting lens, though a bit challenging. Very well built. The price was attractive enough for me to buy it and give it a try.
